Can I use the flaps as air brakes? And if so, at what speed (King Air)? Like apart from pulling out of it, what can I do when I blast straight past the 250 or so V-ne, trying to stay with the treetops in a steep valley that is too narrow to zickzack?? I'm afraid of heights, so levelling out isn't an option, sry :/

I'm flying the King Air because it's as simple as the Baron (more switches are confusing me) but it has more pickup.

I also tried cutting throttle and windmilling, throwing out the gear and sticking my hand out of the window. The Kingair don't have spoilers and airbrakes... right?

In theory yes, practically no.
Extending flaps does increase drag, the more you extend them the more it increases.
The problem is that you are limited to speeds below vfe if you don’t want to risk braking them so their use as air brakes is questionable.
You can use the gear to slow down since irrc the king air doesn’t have spoilers.

Less power, pull on your stick
Learn the maneuver with something like a Cessna 152/170, try to hold speeds like 50 knots at 10 degrees of flaps, or keeping a stable altitude at reduced engine levels, 1500 rpms and under for the 152

Flaps have 2 effects on your plane:
1st: they increase drag. Duh. that doesn't need any real knowledge to guess.
2nd: they increase crit. Alpha, which is the angle at which the aircraft will stall.
So yes, Flaps are used as "air brakes" of some kind, but of course, below their safe speeds.
In GA airplanes, that's in what the call the "white arc" in your ASI.
safe flights mate and hard landings.

If you need to use flaps to slow down, you're not slow enough to deploy then. You should be changing your flight profile instead, that may include replanning your desent and approach.

My physical is this week.
