Earlier and stricter travel restrictions would've left many countries entirely covid-less, but China said that it would be racist so we didn't. Should've listened to what Taiwan said.
Minimising contacts doesn't stop the spread but it slows it down, a stop gap measure to not overload medical facilities. Death tolls are relatively small because symptoms can be treated, but it gets much deadlier if not treated. If the hospital has 10 beds and 10 people a week get sick, they can treat all of them and end with 1 death per week. If it's 20 then 5 people die, if 100 then 45 die, pretty much what currently happens in shitholes that don't even have resources to count the dead.
Masks don't filter shit, especially those thin cloth masks, but they do slow down the flow and thus lower the spread. They also make it less appealing for people to go outside.
You gain nothing except for minor convenience by trying to sidestep the rules, and potentially create far more problems for everyone including yourself in the long run. Unfortunately most people are exactly like you and we are in deep shit where it spread far enough that it now mutates at large scale and will likely forever be a thing to consider. Humans proved once again that they are idiots.
