.ie go at the fastest speed that requires the least effort, especially important for heavy bikes is to maintain a constant speed, never going so fast that slowing down is necessary.

depending on the weather clothing matters a lot, I used to ride only in shorts and a tee shirt, but carried a very thin cardigan tied around the waste or over the shoulders
but a few times I found my self in such a cold rain / hail storm that my forearms, tip of nose, ears, lips went numb and my fingers had chilblains,
its also possible to get cold asf if you are sitting still out doors for a long time .eg waiting / sleeping
after that I carry much more water proof and warm/dry clothing, but I hardly ever use it so where to keep it ? In a huge basket the back of the bike, along with bike locks and extra water / food / tools
sometimes I carry togs or beach clothing just because

a basket on top of the rack is bad for cornering due to the weight being so high, but its good for a single back pack
pannier bags lower but are good for handling only if evenly weighted side to side, and they create a lot of aerodynamic drag and can make the bike awkwardly wide
there is also the issue of security, being able to take the bags with you is useful

Just don't be fat and don't ride hard, you should be able to cycle at a 10mph without your heart rate going higher than it would walking.

Shower right before your commute, leave your hair wet, it will evaporate and act like sweat. Body odor comes from bacteria so as long as you scrub down before a ride and use deodorant you may sweat a bit but you won’t stink. That’s the best you can do really.

how long is your commute? whats the weather like?

some general tips from a normie dutchbro with a white collar job:

>go slow (think 15-20 kph)
>avoid big accelerations when riding away from traffic lights, try to avoid hills if possible
>wear (at least) one article of clothing less than you would otherwise wear. e.g. if you would wear a sweater, just wear a t-shirt (put the clothing in your bag). its fine to be chilly when setting off, cycling will raise your temperature very quickly. its generally better to be too cold and have to throw something on mid ride than to overheat and have to take something off.
>especially in summer try to avoid using a backpack as the straps and back will cause you to sweat more, go for a bike rack or something to carry your bag.
>keep a set of reserve clothes at work just in case (e.g. dress shirt).

above should deal with 99% of issues (depending on weather).

whats wrong with sweating? Do you understand what it is and how it's your bodys way of evaporating water to manage heat? just wear clothes that manage sweat well. Wool is a good example and doesn't stink even after several days of hard riding. Lycra works too but if you are doing city riding you probably don't want to wear that.

Also linen shirt if you want to ride in style also if you want to be identified as a justride/partypace/hipsterzoomer, also it will be sweaty and clingy regardless, just more comfortable.
Or you can buy a couple MTB jerseys that airate well, look good and loose fitting and they don't cling to you like lycra.
