>>1674527>this is a huge waste of metal and spaceThe Chiba Monorail carries around 50 000 people every day, it's by no means any kind of waste. Unless you're flying a plane really close to the ground, the track is not a waste of space, it provides a really dense zone with narrow streets of transit without having to dig tunnels around the area, and without obstructing said streets in any way; hell, some stations have streets running below them And what could the metal be used for anyway? a thousand cars for amerilards maybe?
I don't know if digging tunnels would be cheaper, honestly, but I am pretty sure it isn't.
>also: it's fucking uglyWell, you are looking at the most important station of the monorail, at chiba station which may look a little convoluted, I agree, but I encourage you too look at any other station, they are quite simple and nice looking.
You can get both a good look at the city from the train, and some good looks at the train like at Chiba Park.
Other advantages of the SAFEGE monorail are easier mechanisms to change tracks unlike normal monorails, protected tracks and carts from the weather thanks to the enclosed track, and while using rubber tires means less efficiency, it also means higher accelerations and deacceleration rates. I am more of a Shonan Monorail guy though, look it up on youtube, it's a nice ride.
