how many experienced cyclists do you see choosing a bianchi as their dream bike? bianchi is not what it's made out to be, it gets made fun of on /sp/. italians see them as a meh brand because their quality was never that great and they sell normie city bikes. they're a part of cycleurope which sell horrible hiten steel normie bikes with IGHs and coaster brakes in sweden under the crescent and monark brands. they have name recognition among non-cyclist boomers and that's it. celeste is such a meme color like how crescent has orange as its meme color.

from what I've heard or read a long time ago, at first Celeste was Bianchi's only color because it was a cost saving measure as the paint was leftover stock from military boat paint or something like that, then it became a meme and they never let it go despite how much they themselves hated it knowing what Celeste was.

Nah, they've been using celeste from the late 1800s. One story claimed it was to match the pizza queen's eyes, but she had brown eyes. It's most likely they simply picked it to stand out. One possibility for the color's drift to the minty green is that it was originally truly sky blue (literal meaning of celeste) that became green due to yellowing clearcoat. Another possibility is that the drunk fuckers who made the frames at reparto corse fucked up, which is possible because they mixed the paint fresh every morning and never stuck to a single formulation. It's why frames produced at reparto corse during the same run will be slightly differently colored, and why there's no single Pantone or RAL swatch for Bianchi Celeste like there is for Ferrari Red.

Yeah, the mountain bikes typically tend to be in my price range, but I'm not in the market. I did find some restored late 70s 47cm frame, though. Still kind of high.
I should mention that I didn't specifically mean Bianchi.

There are taiwanese made road Bianchi from the 80s/90s that are often quite cheap. Not as nice obviously but still the colours.
