>>1677328The hand actuators are the most important part of the drivetrain, and the most expensive part of the drivetrain, and quite a few places mix and match, so if a bike says Shimano derailer, SR suntour crankset, Microshift 7x shifters, and you're clueless, you don't have to look up everything, and can start with microshift, which means you can predict it's a super low end bike.
They also frequently tell you what kind or quality of brakes the bike has, or at least rounds it down some.
It is frequently cheaper to buy a new bike than it is to upgrade shifters.
>>1677332Lets try an example. Lets take six bikes with six shifters.
One with SRAM eagle 12 speed,
One with shimano tourney TX 7 speed.
One with shimano revoshift 3 speed.
One with Campy Chorus 11 speed
One with Shimano 105 GRX
One with SRAM apex 10.
I'm betting from the partial description of the shifters ALONE, you can make reasonably educated guesses on what kind of bikes those are likely to be, and some guess on how relatively expensive they're going to be to each other.
