Can someone explain to me why? I really like cars but I'm very much in favor of HSR in America. Ideally you'd want to be able to utilize both right?

im pretty sure the average person just hates cars
most people I know complain about stupid drivers and traffic all their life and wouldn't ever touch a bike or public transportation

Hating being stuck behind a semi or a retard on their phone is extremely different than hating cars. And being stuck in traffic still beats the hell out of the fucking bus. Anyway, just don't live in an urban shithole and it's not that big of a problem.

This is why trainfags reserve a particular hatred for cars. Bicycles never threatened to replace trains, and airplanes play a mostly different role in transport than trains. They might have other issues with other methods (i.e. bikes predominating /n/), but it's not with the same vitriol.
