I am sick of seeing public transport advocates and cycle nutters posting this picture. I like bikes but the reality of pic above actually looks like pic below.

I'll take my comfortable, safe, air conditioned box that can go anywhere in the country at any time over pic below anyday.

The people you're complaining about are confusing and frustrating to listen to if you make a mistake about their motives. They don't actually want to improve transportation or urban mobility. What they want to do is invite an argument about class. You are supposed to say "but if you cannot afford a car you must be poor" so that they will have an excuse to say "but if I was poor I wouldn't have a $4,000 monthly rent" or "but if I was poor why would my property taxes be over $12,000 a year"

They would then lambast drivers for not having an apartment in the most fashionable part of town where they can "just walk to work" ("work" being a synonym for a desk job at a tech startup since that is the only kind of work that exists)

tl;dr: "ban cars" = "ask me about my socioeconomic circumstances"

What the people who post the picture and you are arguing are entirely different, though? People who post the picture are in favor of mass transit because (depending on mode of public transit) it reduces congestion by taking up less of the road and has a lower demand on the environment.
You're arguing that a personal vehicle is more comfortable and gives you the freedom to go where you want.
Those are two entirely separate things that don't disagree with each other. If you're a driver, you'd want other drivers to take public transit too because they wouldn't be clogging up the road and contributing to the traffic jams that are making your commute less pleasant than it ought to be.

The trickle-up effect where if you were to follow the money trail in most of these urban planning companies (and a few city governmental offices) the money tends to lead to NGO's who's sole purpose is to get the plebs out of commuting from suburbia 30 minutes or more by car from the city center by heavily constricting car movement through said city as well as reducing car parking space OR making car parking space extremely cost prohibitive such that people are either:
- compelled to move into the city to trade commute/parking for convenience of living in the city where they will likely give up their car
- compelled to drive to rail/bus hubs where they are then required to spend more wake hours commuting by trading commute hours by public transport in exchange for limited parking/high parking prices

The whole point is to destroy the based driver into the city where you will own nothing, eat the bugs and thank your Euro/Transilvanian overlords for the privilege all the while these urban planning companies think they are solving some epidemic in the flow of people in and out of a city.

Only it would be compleatly financially inefficient. Sardine level packed buses already at cars levels. Increase required number of buses by 3-5 and its over for them. Its the entire point of the pb
