>OVANDO — A grizzly bear killed a person on Tuesday morning in the small town of Ovando on Tuesday, and authorities are continuing to search for the bear.
>The road leading into Ovando has been blocked since early Tuesday morning as Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks investigates the attack.
>FWP sent its Human Attack Response Team to investigate the incident; the Powell County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
>Authorities say the victim was traveling with a group of cyclists and was camping in the area overnight.
Reminder that, in the wilderness, bears are attracted to the smell of food. Safe practices in bear country are camping separate from area where food is prepared and consumed. Food needs to be slung in a tree, in as smell-proof a container as possible. Bears will be attracted potentially to anything that smells interesting- so that means either caching your smelly cologne with the food or just carrying only fragrance-free products. Little is known about the victim other than she was female. As we all know, females love fruity-smelling shampoo and can't resist aromatherapy, scented soaps, and other bullshit, that leave trace smells on all kinds of other materials, especially synthetic fabrics. This was perhaps the fatal mistake.
