Why would it cost 10k to ship to a local yard? Shit is already on the tracks. Can't they just hook it up to a train going in the same direction?

Last mile transportation would be a huge bitch but getting it within ~5 miles of wherever the storage site is couldn't be that hard / expensive, right?

If you would like to see some of the MBTA F40PHs saved all you have to do is let MassDOT know. Tweet your support for saveing some of these units to @MBTA_CR @MassDOT @mbta @MassGovenor. Or call

The reason why railways exist and are profitable is that the cost of carrying a single loco is almost the same as carrying hundreds of tons of cargo or passengers.

Its expensive to you because you have nobody paying to move that loco.
