Recovered cat3 racer who now only rides what is basically a hybrid. Threw some aero bars on it for longer century plus rides and I gotta say, hybrids with aero bars rule. Get yourself some aero bars and you’ll never go back.

Oh I just spent enough time on flats that the drops started to feel too tight after just riding lots of gravel. I did the divide on off road drops with the aero bars and just wished I had flat bars the whole time. Kinda regret selling the road bike now that I’m doing longer rides again but I’m mostly just summer riding long rides anyways

And you can mount a monocular between the bars too for, uh, idk why you'd do this. Anyway I think that those flared out gravel drops are absurd so your solution of flat bar + aerobars is a good one.

its easier to fit the two part aerobars because the ramp between 22.2 flat bar and 25.4 mm bar clamp can be avoided
and also the width between aero bars can be set to the width best suited to your sholders
older aerobars were a bit wider apart for comfort, Scott DH bars made the narrower ski type postion popular

The real problem is it is unsafe to ride in the aero bars around cars. The aero hybrid is what you want for desolate roads and long MUP rides, it sucks for a windy urban commute with road hazards and cars around
