>>1682198That's KMCI (Kansas City International). That was my hometown airport until about 3 years ago. It was shit. It still is. They're building an all-new Terminal A (on the right, mostly abandoned in OP's photo). Incredibly, it'll be worse, if they ever finish it.
However, OP is right, and wrong. KCI (even though it's technically MCI) was one of the last major airports built before hijacking planes became a thing in the early 70s. All airports after that have some sort of central security. KCI had X-ray machines at every gate, or set of gates for the same airline.
Now, as a resident, I found it to be ridiculously convenient to use. I could get dropped off at the curb, get my TSA prostate exam, and get on the plane all in one fell swoop. When you can see your plane from the sidewalk in front of the terminal, it's pretty handy.
