Uncle Extra recently certified a new acrobatic airplane with no steel tubing in the fuselage, so I am sure that Boeing engineers can do it too.. eventually.

The Extra designers hung on to metal tubing in the fuselage, even after some other manufacturers went to all carbon. And some of the tails snapped into half after tailslides, and there was at least one fatal accident this way.

One guy I know has all his competition stickers stuck onto the weakest part of the fuselage, right in front of the stabilizers. He's a funny guy.

In passenger aviation, you can have the computers limit the G-forces. No self-respecting acro pilot will accept any limitations short of his own bowels exiting via his pelvic ring, so the weaknesses with the composite manufacturing processes, in terms of instantaneous forces experienced in unlimited-category maneuvers, are potentially more catastrophic.

idk, but composites have to be beneficial in some places. I'd say that I personally would keep wings and fuselage skin alloys for ease of maintenance, but I could definitely see the fuselage ribs being composites that the alloy skin would be riveted to. Those would be easy enough to inspect and replace. Though I'm no engineer, I would be worried about de lamination of composite wing components over time.

It’s not about one individual knowing more than another. It’s about individuals on the inside and outside of the brainwashing corporate culture. Large companies like this really struggle with engineering once too many MBAs get involved. Especially if there’s lots of outsourcing.
