>>1686857Seeing as you have a police report attributing fault to the driver, it should be very easy to get an insurance payout. You just need to follow your nose to make that happen, but I doubt anything will stop it.
There are 4 things an insurance company might pay.
>Repair costthis is a new frame and probably other things. Find a shop that can quote you a new chromoly frame, like a ritchey logic or something. That will be a HIGH quote and basically show that repair is not viable.
>Replacement costThat's a nice mid range (old) road bike. You'd quote for an entry-mid range bike. It's going to be like $1000-$1800, especially at a fancier shop. If you go to a racefag shop the quote would be for their cheapest road bike, which might be really quite nice.
>Resale value This is what the bike, pre crash, would sell for.
You'd have to get this qoute from a shop which re-sells old road bikes. Seeing as shops like that charge a large markup, this quote might be well over $500. Maybe even over $1000 if it's a nice bike.
>Insurance deals with bicycles a lot and cucks you with some bad stock options. Unlikely but if this is what you get, then just take it.
Any way, you'll get to keep all the old parts. You'll end up ahead.
I would try to work out what insurance companies in your area typically pay for bicycles. Then get the right quote from the right sympathetic shop yourself. Then the insurance company can deal with the shop, keeps it all very above board. Then you pay the shop a fee or give them some beers.
