The only thing that puts me off buying tinted chink sunglasses is that you don't know if they actually have UV protection or not, and if they don't then they're worse for your eyes because they make your pupils dilate to let more UV in.

Sunglasses are mostly worn to stop you squinting, obviously going from squinting to not squinting is opening your eyes wider.

Polyurethane filters UV anyway. You're right about the dark part but almost any plastic makes your UV concern silly.

Until you need something with prescription lenses. But then you need something custom made by an optician anyways and it will have UV protection.
What I don't get is why more people don't wear normal sunglasses with prescription lenses for cycling, since they are way cheaper than the alternatives.

Are you stupid? Of course pupils dilate when there is less light, such as when wearing sunglasses. Then if there is no UV protection, there is no natural defense against the invisible UV light and more reaches and damages the retina.

Wrong. What do you think makes them dark? You really are stupid. There are different classes of light filtering, common ones block 65% to 85% of VISIBLE light.

Most sunglasses are not polarized. That's an extra feature that costs extra and has nothing to do with UV filtering. Please just stop, you don't know what you're talking about.

That's what I did last weekend, and there was still enough of a draft around them to get a grain of dirt in my eyes I had to see an opotamahowajist for. That's when I told myself to get purpose made cycling sunglassey.
