Not necessary. People walk and kids play catch, basketball, street hockey in the street because barely any cars drive one them, ESPECIALLY in cul de sacs, just the residents getting home, unlike in an urban area where the second you walk outside there’s a super busy street with tons of parked cars and a crowded sidewalk.

I live near to a massive park that gets kind of busy at the weekends, but during the week there's barely anyone there at all, even after working hours.
Went for an hour ride in there yesterday at 9pm and saw a total of 4 people.
