I just found this Startupcompany, and I'm really starting to question our hypercommercialized world.

They offer you to PAY FUCKING MONTHLY for your Bicycle, for basically getting free repairs and your shit fixed. And the best part as it'd be like leasing, you can't even keep the bike if you unsubscribe from them.

OK so how much does a normal bicycle cost? they cost around 20 Fucking Bucks per month. A FUCKING BICYCLE. AND ITS ONLY MADE FOR CITYDWELLING.

WHO THE FUCK PAYS 20 BUCKS PER MONTH FOR A FUCKING BYCYCLE.

an ok bike is what, $500? So even just purchase cost it's 2 years of a bicycle. There are ongoing maintenance costs too even if you do everything yourself.

people readily pay a fuckload more on other transport options. Even busses/trains would quickly rack up way more than that. It's like 1-2 ubers. Less than just insurance on a car.

An OK bike for 500 bucks lasts you for Decades. Repaircost is almost nonexistent if you do it urself except for the parts needed. If you let it get repaired its maybe an additional 50-100 Bucks + parts needed. This kind of service is what you'd offer to zoomers.
You could also just get a used bicycle instead of a 500 bucks on. hell I have my bicycle for 5 Years already (a used one that cost me 150 bucks and its sufficient for city.)

Ofc IF you are using it for a Job where you are cycling through the city 24/7 ok, then the 20 bucks per month would make sense. But again, usually its the Company that you work for that provides you a bicycle.

Like do you think that buisiness would actually have a strong profit margin? I highly doubt it considering the abuse/theft the bikes would incur. It's likely to lose money and just be a startup financial scheme type thing.

Iunno about that man. Within a year of all weather commuting a cheaper bike will have grenaded hubs and tires and disc brakes and need a new chain and a recable and headset overhauled. At that point it's basically a write-off if you're paying parts/labour.

The more expensive stuff (to a point) is worth buying if you're genuinely using it a lot because all the bearings are higher grade and seal much better for one.

I biy a second-handed bike every 2-3 years or so for anywhere between 25-50 euro's. Sometimes need to fix tires, because of niggers who throw glass on the roads or break the glass of the bus shelters, but a inner tire costs like 2 to 5 euro's.

But these rental bikes/scooters things really are an intro to the new world order it seems

Its actualyl a way of artificially Manipulating Demand and availability, by owning all the bikes you essentially reduce the demand for actual bikes, while you control the means to produce and offer them. Basically you Own all the Bikes, and destroy all other small businesses, creating demand for bikes, which you offer to fullfill cheaply. Kinda like a "whip" and bread strategy. Punish everyone who doesn't buy your stuff, and reward those who consume your shit.

Swapfiets isn't a bike rental service, it is a lifestyle choice.
You see them foogin everywhere in Netherlands. They suddenly popped up in the cities. People were wondering what these bikes with a light blue front tire were. Now FOMO gets people to crave them.

Even the concept of owning a bicycle pump to inflate tires until the desired pressure reads off the gauge and closing the presta valve afterwards is completely alien to a lot of people. I know some of them, often highly payed academics.
They are more than happy to pay for someone to do it all for them - set and forget. Swapfiets only created that product.

especially considering the risk of it getting fucked/stolen

it's actually quite easy to burn through a cassette & chain in a month, especially if you don't clean anything. you don't even have to ride all that much, maybe 10 miles a day on average.
also modern outboard bottom bracket bearings aren't nearly as resilient. if you ride in the rain a few times they've had it.
so basically just ride.

bicycles really are shit, come to think of it.
