Even when you factor in time and commute cost I still make more than what I would earn closer to me. It's like I'm being paid extra for the commute.

I live in a dormitory town, being it's own town it has schools and some amenities, being a dormitory town there are hardly any businesses here. I like it, but I sometimes think it would be better to live somwhere where I can at least cycle to the store, let alone work.

Fyi the name for a middle class suburb with only houses and no industry outside of service is a "bedroom community".

In the US these can range from cool to bleh. But all are safer and you can actually own a house and send kids to public school.
