>>1697346I’ve got a line on a 650 wheelset for like $170, I already have a set of 650x42 pari-motos in the garage with low miles that were take-offs from a surly pack rat that I had. Wasn’t a fan of that bike’s geometry at all, but I did like the tire size. Getting a pair or tektro r559’s is like $60, so it’s kind of like spending $220 that adds a fresh dimension to a bike I already love. Sure I can find some old GT for about that price but it’ll need new tires, brake pads, cables, who knows what else, and I probably won’t like something about it. I’ve owned or ridden just about any type of bike new and old. Have had a merckx, Fuji Team, Fuji Del Rey, Schwinn Sierra, Schwinn Cruiser Supreme, Trek 520, Trek 930, cross-check, friggin all city space horse, cannondale caad something or another, more bikes that I can’t remember what they were, crashed the fuck out of an old specialized allez, still have my centurion Le Mans RS, used to flip bikes, worked in a bike shop, worked as a rider, took every chance to test every bike I could from track to fat, discs to coasters, I just like the surly Pacer. It’s fast, it’s got good paint, the geometry is perfect for me, it doesn’t need much maintenance, and when it does I can do it all at home. Yes, I am past my hipster glory days, but I’ve got a business and a family and I’ve got time and funds for one bike to ride and fuck around with.
