are there other people who exclusively bike on quiet side streets? or is it just me being a pussy?
riding my bike on busy roads alongside traffic is so stressful.

Riding on quiet side streets can be tricky, because everyone expects it to be without traffic. Bam, some idiot takes your right of way. Anon nowhere is it safe.
But yes, riding on a busy street is pain. It goes away when listening to music though.

yes, it's regular to feel fear on a big road, bikes are barely given thought by the average driver so unless you are lucky enough to be in a place that has concrete seperate bike lanes (rare), or full on seperate bike roads (pretty much nonexistent outside of rail trails in NA), then you are in constant danger, it kinda sucks.

I ride through central london all the time and the traffic is fine, you get used to it. I quite enjoy riding fast amongst the cars and racing for the lights. There's a decent amount of infrastructure for bikes here so a lot of the main route have a separated wide bike lane.

I wish the pollution wasn't so bad though, I really feel it in my throat after a ride through rush hour. Hopefully electric cars and the ULEZ extension will reduce that part of it. I think it'll be a long time until commercial vehicles are made to be emmisions-free though.

I regularly try killing myself on my bike riding in city traffic. Kinda like in those Hotline vids. It's a lot of fun and I also want to be dead so it's not a problem.

That being said I never felt more horror riding a bike than on country roads out around the farm fields. Those straight line 55 mph county roads (where most people drive 65 while SMSing) with 12 ft ditches on either side.

This is a big part of why I would never ride across the country until I know I'm really 100% ready to die.

I already got hit by a van because the driver decided to get off on a left turn and right of way doesn’t apply to cyclists, hit me straight on
Luckily there was a speed bump right before because people were taking the turn at retard speeds
Started honking at me to get off his hood while I was dazed, then when I pulled him out of the van he started stammering and saying I was going too fast
