Can anyone recommend me a book on trains? I love them and I want to understand how they work
It can be a simple book or an engineering one, I just want to understand trains

I never understand people who actually ask for reading material on a basic subject that anyone can google and find loads of information on instantly. Good luck finding the book though I suppose.

I don't know where to start, the wikipedia page is really underwhelming and doesn't go really in depth, like sure thanks for showing me the type of trains and everything, but this doesn't explain how they work
I like books because they are organized and usually written by professionals

I don't find Wikipedia's information on them underwhelming, but it honestly depends on the train/company that operates them, in any case like that other anon said, this is something for google. While he meant that you could google everything you need to know about them I mean that you can google good train books, or if you have a local book store go there.

This, and railroad museum gift shops are another good source. A general primer on trains might either be a kids book or some kind of big “Great Railways of the World” giant photo book. The alternative is autistic “Santa Fe Freight Cars, 1948-1954, Vol. 1”

There's more information about trains and railroading online than in any book. My advice is to start small with something you're more interest in and work your way up to a broader understanding. For example:

Are you more interested in passenger or freight trains? Trains in a specific nation or state? Specific railroad? Do you like locomotives or have a particular type you favor? Maybe you want to learn about signals & maintenance, operations, railroaders/railroader culture, history of a line or railroad, etc.

World Atlas of Railways by OS Nock might be a good place to start. It's from the 80's, so won't be much use beyond about 40 years ago.
