Why do small island states like Singapore, Macau, the Dutch Antilles, Okinawa, Hawaii, Tuvalu, Fiji build roads for cars on their islands when they can be easily traversed by bike, tram in a matter of hours?
Singapore is 45 miles across and 20 miles tall and it's the largest ones on the list. Are automobiles that functional to a small city like that? Remember, even larger cities have existed with just foot traffic.
I would also like to direct your attention while I have it to the inferiority of the bus as public transport. A bus combines the worst of public and private transport
>gets stuck in traffic and obeys speed limits
>potholes make it bumpy
>have to sit with other people
>on a set route
