Wouldn't it just be cheaper just to store retired shipping vessels in the desert somewhere, instead of spending millions fully dismantling them? They do this with planes, why not shipping vessels? Egypt or some African country with a desert right next to the ocean could build a large enough rail transport system to move all of the ships directly from the sea inland and just leave them there. The ships would last significantly longer in the dry desert, rather than in the ocean. Companies and countries would pay a lot for this because it would be cheaper than fully dismantling them.
