I don’t know anything about bikes
What is the thing called that covers this? I’m on Amazon looking for a pump and just realized I’m also missing the black cap that keeps the air in place (?)

valve cap
it's the same as on cars, go snap one from neighbor's whip
you don't actually need it though, it won't deflate without it unless you really jam something into it

It does protect it from corrosion though. So if you leave your bike outside, getting some valve caps might be a good idea. There are different sizes. Don't bother getting expensive metal ones.

You usally get them when buying new tubes.

Valve caps are another one of those things that /n/ has a silly irrational hate against. Like kickstands and mudguards. But the way I see it's easier to unscrew a valve cap than to clean out mud and dirt from the valve.

This, I lost a cap once from getting a flat on the side of the road and having to panic refill the tyre so I just "borrowed" one from a random cager on the way home.
