Johnson as mayor and the Tory Wandsworth council approved the nine elms and Battersea Power Station redevelopments, with the developers convincing him to spend the quarter of a billion supposed to be for affordable housing on a tube extension instead. So it's really a self-interested little bit of line that lines developers pockets by pushing up the value of the redevelopments, which contain a pitiful amount of affordable flats thanks to the above mentioned dealings.
Safe to say this is not in the interests of any people that have lived in the surrounding areas for any amount of time, rather it is for the city workers who will move into the expensive new flats and need a connection into Bank.
