Because it's been proven that creating more space for cars (like adding lanes or adding new main roads/highways) does not reduce traffic. It in fact creates more.

If more cars are on the freeway it either means more people can drive now that wouldn't have been able to otherwise (good thing) and/or people have moved to the freeway from other streets which are now less congested (good thing). Cars don't spontaneously materialize out of the ether just because someone built a road for them.

Stop it with the induced demand bullshit when it's very clear it's an overpopulation problem. Highways will never be able to handle 100% of humanity because there are too many fucking people.

Induced demand and overpopulation aren't mutually exclusive as problems. We need to invest more in different forms of transport and less in cars. Don't you think it's kind of wild that we just got to this point? We've taken cars so far that the infrastructure for them just dominated our spaces.

Dallas highways aren't particularly well-marked when it comes to their highway system, they don't have a spoke-and-wheel system like Houston. Plus Facebook memes like this indirectly imply that freeways are a pleb filter.
