I collect abandoned bikes and flip them after getting them working again for a very modest fee. Usually low to mid level component types. Clear tire rot and rusting chains. Anyhow, I use a portable band saw to cut the old locks off. This tool works far faster than an angle grinder or bolt cutters and makes pretty little noise. I can cut that U Lock in your pic rel in maybe 3 to 5 seconds with hardly any noise, no sparks, no thrown metal shavings and completely safe

I'm a burger living in the Netherlands who's never had to keep their bike outside of the residential premises, and I just bought a bike today.
I went downstairs twice just to check if my frame and wheel are actually properly locked to the rack, and even now I'm extremely anxious.
I'm thinking of covering the frame with masking tape and drawing some stupid shit.

G/L cutting through it. You're better off cutting the frame in half to salvage the components. The rockwell is so hard, that it will damage my portable bandsaw rendering the blade toothless. Angle grinder....you'll get through it eventually with a fuck ton of noise.

Wew I use that stuff to secure my motorbike, must be quite heavy to carry around.

But again even a 300 dollar bike is still a huge burnout feel when it gets stolen.

they do. I bought some Gazelle hybrid that's plenty scratched up. A colleague also just bought a bike here, except it's some Ferrari-Red Giant road-bike, very shiny, that stands out immediately.
He's thinking of shrink-wrapping some dumb designs over his frame.

Yes, the chain is super heavy...but consider it a leg day and prep for snowboard season. For the leglettes out there, they do offer a 10mm chain as opposed to the 12mm you and I have, for a modest reduction in weight.

Realistically, though, if you can't lock up your bike for more than 30 minutes without thinking it might get stolen, you don't actually live in a bike-friendly area, no matter how nice the infrastructure is.
