Historically being a boat hub does lead to the infrastructure for transport being built, which makes it favorable for rail and plane over any other flat place in the US. Texas County, Missouri would make sense for developing a new rail/highway/air traffic hub, since it is the current mean population center of the us (minimizes the average distance to every US citizen), but doesn’t have the established infrastructure for shipping.
