>>1712764My dream is simple - we go back.
When I was a kid, there wasn't a place in this country I was unable to get and get there via train.
Now to some of those places you just can't get. Not just by rail, but by any mode of transportation other than your own car. Tourism pretty much croaked in two regions and there is an endless legal battle about some moron trying to build yet another express road through nature preserve, because they need to build transportation, while in the same time stripping down rail.
I hate how my country mismanaged its rail system. And I hate that this was done in the idiotic believe that we actually should copy American way of running modern rail company. How fucking dumb one must be to not just assume that, but then implement such idiotic changes?
Last week had to pay through nose (despite booking my ticket a MONTH in advance for a discount) and get three changes of a train, including waking up at 4:15 AM, take a taxi to nearby town and rush for a 4:57 train, just to get from southern edge to the sea shore up north, and reach my destination by 3 PM.
The same journey 18 years ago required from me to be at 8:20 AM on the rail station in my own town and get a direct train to my destination, where I would be by 4 PM (since there were far more passing loops back then and thus allowing better use of rail). All that at third of the price, despite buying a ticket right before departure - and that's AFTER accounting inflation.
