>>1713827>They are too under powered (more precisely too little energy stored on board).I have 30lb / 15kg of battery on my ebike and can get decent range motoing around, great range if I pedal, but I want to moto around on it, if I wanted to pedal I'd just grab my regular pedal bike and go for a ride
I was thinking of upgrading it with more battery, (there is space on the frame for another 20lb / 10kg) and a second hub motor (no space for a mid-drive), which is basically the same dual motor setup as that honda bike, I don't even care about going highway speeds, 35mph max is more than enough, with a switch to change the speed limiter from 20mph->28mph->35mph depending on where I am riding.
But now I am reading about these regen braking motors. If I add a regen motor I would have to replace my old motor also with a regen, which only has 1000mi / 1600km on it, so I wasn't planning on it any time soon. I also probably wouldn't need as much extra batteries with regen though, so It might be a price wash, 2 motors + 7lb / 3kg battery instead of 1 motor and 21lb /10kg battery. The regen is only good for the city not so much on the highway, so I would still need a little more battery.
35mph / 56 kmph top speed with a 100mi / 160 km round trip range would be ideal for these things, but I don't see much utility beyond that, the Harley Davidson only goes 40mi / 65km range on the highway so for $30k USD it seems like a total waste to me.
