>>1715411I have never seen the roads in Eastern European cities, so I can't comment on your situation, but I reject the argument that it's inherently a "city problem". I live in London - admittedly a wealthy and developed city. Our roads are not dog dirt, but they aren't amazing either. Plus part of my commute is on canal paths, which are rougher and have cobbled sections under bridges, but the 25mm tires handle them just fine.
And, as
>>1715409 so politely says, I never actually commute in snow, so I can't comment on that. But the OP never actually said anything about snow, so I'm not sure what he's getting at there. I ride the same tires in winter as I do in summer, the only drawback being that the tread is for show only and fires dirty water all over my frame, regardless of having full SKS guards. I stick with the armadillos anyway, as at 100 PSI they are smooth and quick and comfortable and never puncture. My previous pair lasted me 7 years.
In my opinion it's just retarded to give yourself so much more rolling resistance for minimal comfort gain, even on quite rough city roads. The Schwalbe Marathons on a bike I bought recently were like riding on treacle - awful and uninspiring. Swapped them out for some 28mm armadillos and immediately the bike is different beast, easier to ride and just as comfortable. This is why I'll never understand the 90s mtb obsession. Objectively worse to ride on any kind of tarmac.
>>1715422I like riding slowly, but it's also nice to fly along "slowly" with very low effort. Don't you like the sensation of speed? It's not "racer" to like cruising down the street hands free on your commuter at a decent clip.
