What are some good flat pedals that are cheap to service?
I love my DMR pedals but pic related is daylight robbery, more than half the cost of the pedals and these chinese parts can't cost them than £1.
Are there any flat pedals where I can buy replacement bearings, bushings and seals for <£10?

I've been scammed by those cheap Chinese flat pedals a half a dozen times. Just walk away and get some pedals with robust bearings. Those tiny bearings found in alloy platform pedals simply dont hold up and will fail every so often.

I'm certain the first part to wear out will be the rubber seals, and no amount of money spent on pedals is going to make rubber stop perishing like rubber
Access to cheap replacement parts is all I'm looking for

Basically any platform pedals on ebay or aliexpress. They've all been junk with no exceptions. Doesnt matter the brand name whether its Wellgo or Rockbros, all crap.

I bought some MKS pedals that are Japanese made and so far they've been awesome. They have larger bearings so not low profile and thats what I recommend looking for.

jockey wheels are not subjected to a high degree of force as they are on the slack side of the chain
their is also not the same diameter or width limitations as in a pedal body

I'm rehabilitating from a broken leg and can't twist my ankle enough to unclip.I need better flat pedals /n/. I thought that any old thing would do but these massive bulky things have been trying to fucking murder me in the bends.

What are good, CHEAP, flat pedals that you can getin europe that also don't destroy your shoes (like mtb ones)?

if your bike has a bottom bracket that is low to the ground thinner pedals may not help much
shimano used to make pedals specificity for Criterium bikes, some modern pedals also have this shape

as for cheep pedals, they are cheep so just get the cheapest (expect if you are shopping on wish.com)
and as op finds a new pedal may not cost much more than a bearing rebuild kit
HT PA03A Nano P costs 37 euro
kona Wah Wah 2 Small Composite costs 55 euro

mtb pins really don't destroy your shoes as much as you'd think
I thought it was going to be a huge problem too, but after using pedals with metal pins for 2 years there is barely any damage to the soles of my shoes
I would recommend using shoes you don't care too much about regardless, pinned pedals + some cheap adidas trainers is the ideal combination for me

OP here, I'm thinking that getting some good old cup and cone pedals might be the best solution to this problem, since loose bearings are universal and extremely cheap.
Currently looking at the DMR V8 classics, and various Wellgo pedals.

The only thing I hate about these is that they all seem to have crappy plastic endcaps.
Does a cup and cone pedal with threaded metal endcaps exist? I think that would be the ideal pedal for me.

Best pedals I ever had are Suntour XC II's, had the same pair for around 18 years and I stick them on every bike I have. Only needed to service them twice, quick and easy to do, they spin like new even 7+ years since the last service and daily use in all weathers.

Got them on an old 80s atb I paid £30 for, seen a pair sell on ebay recently for more than £160. And yes, they are that fucking good - if you had them before, otherwise just get some DMR's or Shimanos and pretend like they're the best..

Those were made under contract by MKS. In 2020 a Jap bike shop convinced them to remake the molds, tooling, etc for a reproduction run. They called it MKS XC-III, but you'll also find it casually as "mks beartrap".
In general, they sold out crazy fast, but you can still find them here and there for $60-100. Typical MKS quality, so I'd say they're worth it.

Bearings and bushings are easy enough to find, but finding the exact seals seems near impossible.
Neither in the OP pic are standard o-rings, they're specific shapes.
If anyone could give me some pointers on how to track them down I'd appreciate it, but I've looked for a couple hours on aliexpress already and not had much luck.

Don't waste your time with Aliexpress, look at a machine/industrial supply. You're going to have to take some measurements, a pocket scale or digital caliper is good enough, this isn't a high-precision application.

This US supplier has only a medium selection, but their website is quick to browse, and useful if you don't know what something's called, unsure what to measure, etc.

O-rings exist to get smooshed. It's hard to tell in the OP pic, but the smaller one looks close enough to circle cross section. Am I missing something?
I looked at these pedals, assembled, that larger seal mounts externally, what does it even do? Hard to guess from the pic. You might be able to replace it with a square o-ring, but also look at 'grease seals', 'v-ring shaft seals'.

take all the bearings and o rings and seals into a specialist bearing shop or machine shop in your area and ask how much for 3 of each. you will probably be able to get 3 in better materials for the price of those.

Here's a much better pic. The inner seal is more of a T shape, it has a flat base with a flange.

Just keeps crap away from the main shaft seal. I can't imagine the exact shape is too important, a square seal would probably do fine. It's more the inner seal I want to find a close match for.

If you intend to service anything make sure it has standard parts. Proprietary parts get discontinued as soon as new model appears, often every 2 years.

E.g. Hope F20 rebuild kit has PDSP005 bearings that are just 618/5 5 mm x 11 mm x 3 mm standard bearings and should also fit 685, 685 ZZ, 685 2RS and probably others.

If it is difficult to find diagrams, parts and this information when the product is current and in stock forget about servicing it after a season or two.
