I used to walk 5km to a train station because I could listen to music for an hour before class.
I still walk about the same to get home from trains late at night when there are no buses left.

I could get a taxi or uber, but honestly it's better to walk in my opinion because I can't stand cab drivers.

I'm not suggesting brisbane buses are the best in australia (they are btw)
but why does brisbane continue to put up with the unreliable and expensive train system they have there?

I always thought that removing the tracks and replacing them with busways would be neat:
>buses that can replace the current trains that use the line
>buses can service an area then use the busway go express to the city
>buses can service an area then have a terminus at any point along the busway
>no more waiting for a signal before bowen hills
>no more level crossing failure
>no more wire failure
>no more strikes by a handful of people getting paid double what a bus driver gets paid for no good reason
other possibilities:
>emergency vehicles can also use the busway as an express route to a destination such as a hospital
>train lines are very wide and part of the busway could be a dedicated bicycle track

I recognise the disadvantages:
>busway could turn into a normal road one day not just for buses (taxis too?)
>buses might not have the right of way the trains do the current crossings
>autonomous buses never (bus drivers still better than the current train driver pipeline we have now)

I see freight trains go past Milton way all the time. The passenger rail isn't gonna swap to bus if the rail still needs to be used. But man, skipping the coro drive 5pm clog via buses on the train line would be a dream.
Went into the city last night and got pestered by a gang of aboriginal kids getting out at king george, kinda broken my trust in the safety of the brisbane bus network. Absolutely never had any issues on the north side but having been in woolloongabba a few times in the last couple weeks I'm starting to get real racist.

And with the olympics coming it looks like the state government is strongarming the feds into giving them some infrastructure funding which is nice considering how allergic the federal LNP is to giving SEQ rail infrastructure funding.
The problem is that all future upgrades rely on CRR for increased rail capacity and all future upgrades at the moment are just "potential" upgrades. That being said so far on the cards are
>Maroochydore extension
>Gold coast airport extension
>Beaudesert extension
>Ipswich Springfield rail loop
>North-west transport corridor rail line
In fact typing this out now I'm starting to realize the real problem with the SEQ rail network is the lack of metropolitan

Holy shit if those train lines were put in it would be magical. There's no way to get to a surf beach at the goldie and sunnie Coast without at least 1.5 hours of bus rides after you've spent over an hour on the train.

A line to Toowoomba on translink would be great as well but probably unlikely to happen

fellas i know we tend to avoid politics like the plague around here but assuming albo wins the next election do you think we'll see any *major* rail infrastructure plans in this country? So far he's earmarked money for the ipswich-springfield loop which is okay i guess but in terms of things like say, intercity HSR (i mean between capitals and their surrounding cities i.e. sydney newcaste, brisbane gold coast etc.)
I have zero hope for Morrison and i hate to see what each state "going alone" would mean for future interconnectivity. I can imagine it would be the rail gauge fiasco of the colonies all over again

I used to load 50 rail wagons with grain for 2 train drivers to take a few hours to a depot, now its 25 road trains

IIRC labor was hitting the LNP by saying that they would expand the inland rail to Gladstone and i think the libs conceded and said they'd also commit to extending to Gladstone as well (if only to avoid losing Flynn at the next election)

It's a rail route between Mackay and Melbourne so that freight trains don't have to go through Sydney. It was originally going to go to Brisbane but they planned it out to toowomba and said "we'll sort out the brisbane route later" only to realize it would have been absurdly expensive due to geography so I think they're trying to make Mackay the new "port city" of Queensland for deliveries

V/Line is definitely easy to use. Just wish it was more frequent and had dedicated tracks through the metro area. Pretty sure that's in the works though

it doesn't really need a dedicated track, just BTFO those freight trains to other crappy tracks and set itself a higher signal priority on shared 3/4 lane track can already solve it for next 20 years

the main problem is the signal system
metro and V/Line main route is still using quite primitive fixed block signal rather than moving block, and always need to take concern on old and slow locos' compatibility, which affects more in terms on frequency(if level crossing issue mostly eliminated)
