>>1726763>How many major sporting events are there per year? Just because stopping in Nowhereville, NC is convenient for one day of the year doesn't mean it will be for the rest of the year. There are 6 home games a year, but an ATL-DC high speed train would link up Atlanta (Georgia Tech), possibly Athens (UGA), Clemson, Charlotte, and the Research Triangle of NC where 3 other major universities are. Atlanta and Charlotte play each other at the pro level 2x a year and Tech, Clemson, Duke, UNC, and NC State all play each other regularly, and UGA and Tech have an annual game together. It would be an excellent way to get to/from sporting events over that distance.
More importantly, those universities have tens of thousands of students each that don't live in those cities permanently, many of them come from larger metro areas like Atlanta and Charlotte. There's no reason to exclude university towns from HSR stops when they are prime candidates for viable, sustainable service.
>You have two large Metro Areas 3x larger than any city between them, nearly everyone riding the train will be going to one or the other. So?
>Be realistic anonExpress and local train services already exist in the NEC.
