Why aren't the trains painted in the same colour as the lines they run on?
Jubilee -> silver
Northern -> black
etc. It'd be helpful for tourists and other people unfamiliar with the network.

Actually they do run on the same lines all the time, par the S7 stock, which runs the District, Circle and H&C lines.
Putting the line colours on the trains would be a cool idea.

well, like i said, i think it would be helpful for people who are unfamiliar with the network; they're not stupid, just afraid of making mistakes. and something as simple as painting the trains in a certain colour - rather than having them all look the same - would be a helpful 'yes, this is the train you need' indicator.

the lines already have 'official colours', so telling visitors whose English isn't perfect to look for the BLUE trains for the BLUE line would be helpful. especially at busy stations, where having passengers move quickly and confidently (rather than hesitating out of fear or indecision) is helpful for everyone else.

There is no way you can take a wrong line even in junctions were you have 3 or 4 lines intersecting them.
The color coding is done in the corridoor and there are signs everywere showing that you are heading to the central or the northern line platform.

DLR is way more aesthetic and functional.
There is nothing like a night ride on the DLR while passing throug canary warf and listening to some chill tunes. Really gives you that CITY NIGHTCORE feel.

But the train stations have colour coded lines on the walls or signs leading to the platforms so you know you're at the right platform, just have to check the list on the wall that you get on the train going in the direction you want and not the other way.

Details escape me, but among other 'quirks' there's no room for adding more zones to the Oyster backend, so expanding the Underground will be a headache. I'm half-remembering posts from RailUK but, you know.

With the upcoming shift to GBR over the next three-five years, and a stated goal of 'just one ticket' via contactless payments, apps and such from start to finish; and given the expanding use of contactless bank card payment, with the same fares as using an Oyster card - it wouldn't surprise me if the Oyster card itself ends up being just a glorified season pass / tourism pass / coffin-dodger pass / edge case catch-all / etc.

I don't really get what your point is anymore but I found your whole "jubilee virgin" sentiment tedious so wanted to put an end to it. In my experience it's quite handy to have a card you can top up and go beep with instead of having to plan ahead your journey. I don't know what your standards of "old" are but they've been around since the 2000s.

The fact that with an oyster card you can go beep on any ticket barrier so long as it's for TfL services? Unless they have an equivalent installed for contactless cards etc. Otherwise it'd be more of a hassle to use your contactless card to plan ahead your journey

i'm unsure if i'm misunderstanding you, but, yes, your standard-issue contactless debit or credit card will be accepted at the gates, using the same readers, just the same as with an oyster card.
