I think it will be a good thing.

It will enable traffic lights to change when cyclists approach.

Also idiot drivers wait until the last second to pass giving the person behind them little time to react. This system will warn drivers when there is a cyclist they can't see. And with future cars automatically brake if the driver doesn't react.

The vast majority of car vs bicycle collisions happen when cars are turning at intersections or pulling out of driveways. Thats why it's important to position yourself in the lane well so that you are visible around a corner, and why you need to be cautious when there's a large truck or bus next to you that may hide you from cars about to turn across the street from the other direction. It is very important that you go in the same direction as traffic because that's the direction car drivers will be looking in for oncoming vehicles. If you're riding in the wrong direction there is a much higher chance of a car not looking in your direction before turning. Cyclists being run over from behind has happened but it's definitely not the most common cause of collisions by a long shot

The car insurance companies will start claiming that a driver isn't liable for your medical bills if they run you over because you weren't wearing a government approved beacon. I am that guy, and how is that relevant and only bolsters having my view trimmed to only having to look forward at driveways as Im riding against traffic, where I at least get to see who kills me.
While I was riding on the sidewalk WITH TRAFFIC last night, I had someone who passed me slow to a stop at the upcoming intersection to wait for my to go in front through their turn, after I purposely slowed down so that we wouldn't meet. This was at 10pm. We were virtually alone.

As if the beacon wouldn't just be a Varia style light. I already have a Varia, if I could have it automatically alert the drivers I'd get that shit immediately. There's absolutely no reason to make it into a botnet, there's no connectivity on large parts of the road network. And having GPS would drain battery a lot faster than just a simple beacon.

Yes you tard, you take the lane through an intersection. Even if the road has those shitty bike lanes that are just a strip of paint you're better off taking the lane as you approach an intersection then moving back to the bike lane once you're on the other side, makes you less likely to get cutoff by a car turning right without looking over their shoulder
