I only care for 80s-90s bikes, and the book that I read when I was learning about stuff was Barnett's Manual. I think the most recent edition came out in 2003. The technical information is still solid, but some of the tool & parts recommendations are out of production.
Actually, the tool recommendations are one of the things I like most. It's not just "Park makes a tool for it", but also other companies, Hozan, VAR, Shimano, Campag, etc.
>>1730068If you want to have a book, yeah it's fine. Park Tool has an extensive section on their website called "Repair Help" that contains the same information though.
