So - if same psgr/miles, if most of them were 100mile flights, there would be more fatalities if they were mostly trans-atlantic flights. Which is pretty much the reason why planes are so "safe". There are very few opportunities for accidents, because majority of flights tend to be 500+ mile long. While train trips include 200mile HSR runs ( which still has like 5 fatalities total ) and commuter railroads.
Data is simply too abstract to make a viable comparison.
