I’m from Atlanta but I live in New York.
What’s the best way to transport a dog from ATL to NYC and vice-versa?
I tried Enterprise car rental but they said it would be $600 to rent a car in Georgia and drop it off in New York, plus the car’s $100/day. So I’d be out $1000 total for the trip.
He’s too big for carrying on planes (about 60 lbs)

I got a quote once and it was about $1500.
Normally there’s not a big fee for dropping your car off in another state, but with Enterprise running out of cars it’s really expensive

the airlines let you fly a crated dog with the luggage. a full sized crate for big dogs is like $200. you should crate train your dog anyway.

Amtrak only lets you bring pets on trips up to 7 hours, and ATL-NYC is much longer than that.

That's grueling though. 14 hours travel factoring fuel, piss, and food stops. Add another couple hours if you hit rush hour traffic. Add another hour on the return for walking the dog on the return trip.

2 days down. Unhurried night and morning. 2 days up.

I drove 1500 miles from Atl to Cheyenne. I decided to drive no more than 8 hours a say. I put in a break every 2 hours. I had an untrusted 3 days on the road. Where I avoided traffic. I got to see some things along the way. I didn't risk being drowsy from driving too long and not sleeping from caffeine.

That's a 15 hour drive tops. Just do it one straight shot and spend the $600 on the car rental. I did a 24 hour drive with just red bull, you can do a 15 hour drive easily and stop 4 times to let your dog shit.
