The hyperloop thing is a meme, his tunnel boring company doesn't use revolutionary technology, and he has yet to deliver on the battery semi truck. His company's valuation is big enough that when the house of cards comes down, it could trigger a major economic disruption, even a recession in the right conditions.

He isn't advancing shit. SpaceX is a logistics company. 1960's/70's NASA accomplished ten times what SpaceX has without computers or a half century of research to start from.
