There's a cool tool that uses Open Street Maps data to highlight what land is used for parking. The tool is called Overpass Turbo. I'm not sure computer savvy so I had to visit the Reddit thread to click on the link that has the prebuilt query but it's really frightening to look at major downtowns in the United States and see how terrible the land use is.
