I've been in fat bike races several times. Lapped by the lead pack every time. One guy wore a skinsuit and aero helmet, but I think ironically.

Though about trying it a couple years ago, then realized

- virtually no races within 300 miles of me ever except grabble, and the one that did exist was was non-competitive (not that I expected to remotely contend but that's just lame)
- all races start at fucking 4 AM or some bullshit
- all races make you wear bannanahats
- have no experience riding around other people - let alone lots of other people - and don't want to risk damaging my baikfu
- at the end of the day don't want to be seen associating with lycraniggers anyway

I don't understand the mentality of OPs pic related population. Whenever there is a bicycle race and there is that big throng of bikers on the starting line I literally can only think, where the fuck are all these people?? Same with marathons

then they had a death race from the top of SF twin peaks, down market street to the waterfront ferry building. the first year someone mailed me a go pro to wear during the race (before everyone had go pros) and i got shitfaced the night before and woke up at ???oclock with my phone missing and didnt go to the race .i was planning on jumping a car. someone won the race and got stiffed the cash prize

then about 7 years later they do another twinpeaks-to-market-st death race and i rememeber going down the hill it was the only time i have ever had death wobble on a bicycle, so sketchy, so fast. at one point were going down a huge fast curve and some fixie kid veers in front of me and i ride into the barrier median wall going really fast and kinda just sat on my seat and rode it out and then kept pedaling. i hear later on that the same dude was running a red with a 30rack in his front basket and a car hit his rear end and it just swung out while the weight over his front wheel kept him and the bike moving foward. a few other people crashed and managed to pedal out of it and thats when i figured were all really good at riding bikes

and then they do the race again a year later and i had decent setup to jump over a car but im old and tired and i hesitated and didnt do it.

I also struggle to understand the concept of amateur agonism.
I understand doing sport in your prime when you have a serious chance to make it to the TOP. But past that and also considering the right time to start a sport, usually as a kid, I find it quite silly.

I guess its a form of LARPING, but frankly its a bit odd. I'd rather have a fun ride with friends than fight against drugged amateurs in a nobody race.

They are both held by my city so entrance fees are cheap
