already have one of hornby's A3s of the previously existing tooling so i wonder if the difference will be strong enough to warrant another for my layout even if it is just a new running board and firebox flicker

99% accurate. british OO is probably the second most popular scale in australia behind aussie HO, go to any model train show and there'll be plenty of UK-centric layouts
