Do you believe in this technology for metro and commuter rail? Apparently they can climb steeper slopes and accelerate quicker with less noise though I dont know the exact figures.

The beauty of maglev is their reduced friction at high speeds. I don't think it makes economical sense to replace conventional rail at lower speeds

No it doesn't, unless we live in Cyberpunk 2077 world where there's an entirely new city built up in the late 90's with nothing but maglev tracks in it. If you're going to build maglev infrastructure, it makes more sense to spend the money on an actual high speed intercity maglev.

Why, if I were in charge, I would simply unlock the MAGLEV tech tree, click the 'demolish' button and drag the cursor over the existing train lines, then simply position maglev infrastructure over the empty space. The only reason I can think of that this hasn't happened already is because of the devilish Chinese and their infernal bowing.

The point of low speed rail and Metro is to carry large capacity at low cost. This won't be cost competitive with traditional rail.

i agree, no matter how cheap a maglev gets, it will be more costly than rail, i am sure maglev has its advantages, but it will be a very niche technology, it would be interesting to see if you could make a hybrid that uses maglev on stops while using rail for the rest of the line.
