Frankenstein build idea brain storm

Objective:
Cheap bike I can tinker with, swap parts, experiment and "upgrade"
Is fun to ride, on the softer side, performance not in mind

Acquire cheap used fixie
Swap fork to eBay "carbon" 29er fork
Swap to cheap "carbon" flat bars
Squeeze on widest tire in rear, I'm down to bend the steel frame and Dremel a millimeter or two to fit a 47mm, considering a 650b if I can find 1 for cheap
Fit a 2.1~2.3 thicc slick or gravel/ XC front tire with high TPI for max comfy.
Brakes.... Idk I might not run any brakes and see what fixed gear is like

I suppose it's cheaper than new. Cheap is pretty subjective. Under $600 would be nice, accounting for tires tubes fork and brake mods. I'm not getting some vintage road bike and redoing the powertrain, BB and crankset

Is that possibly because you think removing and installing bbs is hard?
Because most of the time a crank on a good old bike will be re-useable for a SS build, so it's not a high cost.

And if you think you're up to doing a good job on a full custom build from new parts but you're frightened about removing an old BB then you're fucked in the head

its stock tires are English 26 x 1-3/8 "ISO 590"
clearance around the chain stays is only just 47 mm
distance from its Stock tires to the fork crowns is around 25 mm

I would say the problem of many fixed gears is the drop outs, many are of an low quality or unsuitable shape
most modern fixed gear bikes are not built around wider tires, with the exception of Niche and expensive brands
desu a 1970s BSO with 27 inch wheels probably has more tire clearance than the average fixed gear

Nah the first thing you should do with any bike is strip it to the frame then do a meme build with retarded components, then sell it on craigslist after riding it once or twice around the block. Keep one bike for actual riding that's just a normies tier bike straight from a store

Get an used 26 mtb frame with disc brakes mount (you can always get an older one and install a disc brake adaptor), chop down the seatpoststay bridge to fit 29er on the back, fit a new 29er steel fork on the front put on the widest XC tires you can fit . Get a 32t crankset and a 16t freewheel, bars of your choice. Thanks me later.

Do not go for cheap carbon forks. Go find a used alu fork from a reputable bike that someone "upgraded" from. Same with bars, used alu bars are dirt cheap.

I got a late 80s mtb that was getting rusty.
Will change the 26" mtb tires and wheels for 700x23 with a flip flop to use it as a fixie.
Planning on painting with automobile paint, a bright red will be perfect.
Dont even know with side you tighten a screw, decided to do this project anyway, im having a blast.

Its because they fit, even if the wheel being bigger, the size of the tire compensate it, so in the end, both 26" and 700 fit, and since it will be a fixie, dont need to ajust the height of the brakes.
I think by the end of the next week it will be ready, i will post a pic here

back in the 23 era 23 tires normally ran ~25mm and now that tires are designed for ultra ultra wide rims and underspecced for tight clearance frames 28mm tires generally are more like 25mm

The size is exactly the same, nothing changed, it's just a meme to sell more tyres.

About the 700x23, its because the video explaning the converison used one, so i just decided to get one too, on the worst case scenario i will just stick with a 23 until it worns out and then get a 25 or something, thanks for the advice.
I plan on using it just for transportation like going to college, work and errands, so only on asphalt, and since the route is monstly on the main streets theyre nice to ride, i used to ride my street skateboard on them, its quite smooth.
I rided that mtb for years, it doesnt even have suspension, im not that concerned about confort, since the longest distance will be 30 min at cruising speed.

Technically the tyre compound has a big impact on rolling resistance as well.

There isn't much difference between 23 and 25mm but you'd have to own some seriously shit 23 tyres to be slower than a 28+ if that's even possible.

Depending on road surface vibrations might slow you down, but not by much.
