the frame is pretty charming
the scuffed brooks is great spec
It would make a fine beater, but, there are actually a lot of things i dislike about that bike and bikes like it.
It's from an era, coming off the 70s bike boom, when drop bars were default. And because it's probably the 'ladies' version of an identical man's double triangle model. But it's not actually going to be that sporty, ie, it's kind heavy, and if you want a road bike a mixte is just a bad concession. So it suits a cruiser bar conversion which means new bar, and brake levers, and grips, and maybe stem.
Stem shifters are also pretty awful for sporting road riding, whereas they're fine for casual beater duty.
Inline with above, the crank is WAY overgeared. It has a wide cogset in the back to compensate but 52/42 or whatever it has in the front is just very wrong.
The brakes will be awful.
the advantage of a mixte is dismounting easily with a big rear basket. and they look cool. And maybe it's -very- cheap and you ride it as is as a beater as is. But really i'd rather have a similiar men's bike, with dt shifters, lighter, better, and more worth addressing the breaking and overgearing issues.
Most of the time I just think you really can do better in either direction, sportier, or less sporty, and how often does a low-ish end bike with no sentimental value really warrant a fuckload of modifications?
