Anyone here skate around? I was curious about getting a board and riding between the places I walk/cruising on the weekends, there aren't any threads on skateboarding I can see ?

he's right, using a regular board for transportation is only slightly better than walking, if youre trying to have more fun on your 1-3 mile walk somewhere go for it. longboards are decent but still not nearly as practical as a bike (and people that do longboard tricks are kind of fags imo)

The only benefit of a skate is that it's the most compact, lightweight and portable means of transportation around. It weighs nothing and has a very flat profile, you can slap it onto your backpack and get a quick roll down the road instead of walking. A scooter is faster, safer and more convenient, the only downside is size.
Also skate tricks suck, aggressive inline was, is and always will be much cooler.

Depending on your locale it may be significantly worse than walking even. Might be remotely useable if you live somewhere with poured concrete or asphalt sidewalks, but round here virtually all sidewalks are paved and an absolute nightmare to skate down, and even kick scooters with larger wheels I'd still consider too rattly and uncomfortable.

Good take. I think it depends on your city though when it comes to skating for transport. I live in Berlin and the pavements here are garbage for skating. Tons of cobbled streets too. I carry my board on my bike every time.
however, I've skated in cities that were dreams come true for pushing around. Lyon, for example, has the most amazing, smoothest asphalt pavements on which you can push 2 or 3 times and make it all the way to the next block. Tons faster than walking and no need for a bike for shortish distances.

OP I didn't bother reading most of this guy's post but all you need to know about him is that he's a dumbass who doesn't know that pennyboards don't have their own unique bearings. You can transfer bearings in a coniocal wheel over to a more square and softer wheel and they'll feel faster.

I watched and chuckled along for a while, convinced that it was some straight faced ironic comedy along the lines of Sam Hyde, but then slowly it dawned on me that it was actually fucking real, and that this dude is being fucking serious. Man that blew my mind, that there are men out there like this. When I was in college and sharing a car with a sibling who needed it far more and my bike got stolen, I started riding the bus up to campus and boarding back down every day. Fun way to get around campus and downtown.

what you want is a cruiser board. a real skateboard the wheels are going to be too hard and tiny for the sole purpose of traveling. cruisier boards a slightly bigger, dont have to be, and have slightly bigger and softer wheels to make traveling easier hence the name cruiser board. longboards are for complete faggots. if you push mongo you are a clown.
