This isn't america dude, investors actively keep an ear out for public transit developments to try and invest in areas stations/lines pass through because it increases the value of the property there
Jackie Trad had to step down as deputy PM in QLD because she bought an investment property near where one of the new train stations was going to be built

Butler line being extended to Yanchep, Armadale line being extended to Byford, new turnback put in at claremont station, the new airport link is close to being build, the morley-ellenbrook line is under construction, new rolling stock on its way (mixed opinions about it but at least A-series trains will be retired). signalling changing from fixed block to moving block should help capacity and frequency where there are bottlenecks at present. Still no light rail.

Ngl i'm pretty jealous about metronet. CRR has been in the pipeline since 2011 but with governments changing between 2012 and 2015 it got kicked down the can to 2017. They have tentative plans for future rail "extensions" but none of them solve the problem that rail connectivity in the inner city absolutely sucks. Even then they can't start building new lines until CRR is finished since the current links between the north side and south side of the river are at full capacity

Metro tunnel already finished tunnelling, airport rail to start construction this year, SRL to start sometime this year as well.
Metro 2 talks have also happened.
Fast rail to Geelong has bipartisan backing.
Vline has started running vlocitys from Melbourne to Albury just recently.

a lot of chatter about adding and improving cycling infrastructure within and around the city, but nothing set in stone

Further south there's a really promising looking plan for active transport infrastructure which they look pretty set on

the cycling infra and scooter projects are a bandaid to try and fix the congestion issues of the city. They'll help but it's not a long term fix.

Central hobart would really benefit from some light rail. The core is dense enough and very walkable.

for sure, hobart has always had a crazy amount of cyclists given the hills, weather, and level of infrastructure; It's all great news.

They could ramp up the bus network further but I don't think that'll cut it on its own either. What else is there? encouraging businesses to set up outside the CBD?

i doubt that but i think if anything does come from western Sydney airport it'll be Eastern Sydney Airport becoming the major hub for international travel while a large portion of domestic travel is rerouted to Western Sydney Airport. I just can't see Western Sydney becoming a major hub for anything when it doesn't really produce anything of value outside of houses for immigrants to live in so they can commute to the city/east

I wish they had built it the other side of the mountains and shot a tunnel straight under with ultra high speed rail links direct to central Sydney. but that's probably too much like doing something for the regions. imagine jumping on a train at Central station and it's no stops express to Lithgow international airport from which you can reach anywhere from Griffith to broken Hill on regular trains with buses for last mile stuff in very small places

Reopening of the Gawler pushed out again, now won't open until April. It's been closed for over a year now and is (or was) one of the most heavily used lines in Adelaide. What a fucking shitshow.

The entire fucking rail network is going to be closed on the opening weekend of the Fringe Festival to allow them to do testing on the Gawler line. If you're not from Adelaide or aren't familiar with the Fringe then just substitute it for whatever event is biggest in your city calendar in terms of being a tourism drawcard and that should give you a sense of how bizarre and and stupid this decision is.
