Good for fuckoff nowhere travel, obsolete around cities because e-bikes go as fast but are allowed (or at least can sneak onto) a lot more infrastructure. People won't look at you sideways if you ride your 2kW monsterbike into a quiet park as long as you don't go 100 km/h, but they'll instantly notice a moped.

I'm pretty sure the Netherlands are the exception in Europe in regards to scooter friendly legislation. Here in Germany all motorcycles including scooters have to obey the same driving and parking regulations and signs as cars, meaning legally they can only be parked where parking for cars is also legal. A lot of cities will TOLERATE motorcycle parking on the sidewalk if it's not in the way of pedestrians, but that does NOT mean that it's PERMITTED and you could STILL get FINED for it if the enforcement officer has a bad day.

I'm not particularly concerned with solving it, I'm moving out of the country soon so it'll no longer be my problem. Pretty sure I'm not allowed to ride it in Belgium, though. Might bolt a 4 stroke engine onto it or EV convert, will have to see what'll suit my needs better

I love my moped but an ebike will destroy it in terms of cost or reliability and is a stones throw away in performance. I'd have to build a scooter hybrid engine to be in a real class above ebikes and it'd still be below modern 250cc motorcycles. At that point it certainly isn't a daily machine plus any fuel economy is destroyed.

Main benefit they have over other forms of transit is fun factor.

Fun factor is great and all, but I have a car for that. That's not a huge deal for me. This moped has never skipped a beat for the entire 9k miles that I've ridden on it and it gets 140 mpg so fuel cost is effectively a non-issue. Sure, you'd pay even less to power an E-scooter or E-bike but you'd also be paying 2 grand upfront for the privilege, or 4 grand if you want one that has the same top speed. This shitbike on the other hand cost me all of 100 bucks, ready to run.

here you pay 40€ to a insurance company of your choice and they send you a random number plate, which lasts one year. then you buy a new one.

this includes taxes, insurance, registration.
license is included in your car drivers license.
and it needs something like 150MPG fuel
