Yeah. I suppose the saving grace for classics here is the US's state-by-state registration scheme. I suspect the more "civilized" states will adopt emissions taxes and trade-up programs, but relative backwaters probably won't care.

The real reason this is happening is because it makes it more expensive to develope vehicles as every car company will now need a software team to develope and maintain an algorithm/AI that can detect drunk and erratic driving without false positives. As such, it will make it harder for startups to operate without large investments/partnerships with the big car corporations. The same thing was done with crash test regulations and small companies not being able to afford it.

Biking is different because the big bike companies don't have that kind of political power and small bike companies can operate just fine.

Driver monitoring tech that nerfs car if you're anything but alert. The lazy implementation will literally force the car to stay shut off because people are literally too sleepy from waking up to wage in cage.

The only system I know that is close to being compliant with this is Mercedes-Benz. That system is prone to giving false positives for people who look naturally sleepy or asian so I don't know how a good implementation will look like. Doesn't work for sunglasses either.
